Antonio Rudiger's honest opinion

Antonio Rudiger’s honest opinion on Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo emerges again, after move to Real Madrid.

Between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, there is never-ending discussion about who is the superior player. Numerous players and experts have weighed in on who is the better, and most recently, Antonio Rudiger’s remarks about the pair have come to light again.

The Real Madrid defender gave an interview to Sky Sports in 2020 while he was still a member of the Chelsea team and expressed his viewpoint (per The Sun):

“The next two stand out because they are of a distinct caliber and exist in a different planet. When playing against Messi, you get the impression that everything depends on him; if he’s happy or having a good day, you can’t stop him.”

“That is my frank assessment. The same is true with Ronaldo. They play in two different ways, one in an effort to score goals and the other just to enjoy the game.”

At last, the former Chelsea center-half revealed which pair he preferred, saying:

“Messi, if I had to choose, would be my choice. Has he ever been the best? Pele and Diego Maradona weren’t playing when I was alive, so Messi is the one I saw.”

Rudiger, who has competed against both great players, has a strong opinion on who is superior. However, Real Madrid supporters, who consider the Portuguese attacker to be a club legend, won’t appreciate what he said about the Argentine.
