Antony sent a clear message to Frenkie De Jong after debut goal at Old Trafford against Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal on Sunday.
The 2022–23 season will see Antony, a summer acquisition, wear the number 21 jersey, according to Manchester United.
The 22-year-old officially joined the Red Devils on transfer deadline day in an £85.5 million deal from Ajax, making him the second most expensive player in club history.
The former Ajax protégé, who Erik ten Hag was after for a deal all summer, has now participated in training at Carrington in preparation for his upcoming debut.
Today against Arsenal, Antony makes his Manchester United debut and scores the opening goal.
It was a day to remember for the Brazilian talent who showed the world what it means to play for the club. It was a dream come true for Antony.
Nice to finally meet you, Old Trafford!! @ManUtd 🔴🏴⚽️

After Edinson Cavani left Old Trafford on a free transfer at the end of the previous campaign, Antony assumed the number 21 jersey, which has little significance historically for the club.
Between the 2000–01 and 2004–05 seasons, Diego Forlan, a striker, was a noteworthy wearer of the number 21. Over the years, the shirt has also been worn by Daniel James, Ander Herrera, and Rafael.
Despite Mason Greenwood’s arrest and subsequent ban earlier this year, Antony wore the number 11 jersey for Ajax during the 2021–22 and beginning of the 2022–23 seasons, but that jersey is now in Mason Greenwood’s ownership at Manchester United.
The former Sao Paulo prodigy left Ajax after amassing 24 goals and 22 assists in 82 appearances for the Eredivisie champions. After moving to Manchester, he spoke to MUTV about his delight at reuniting with Ten Hag.
Antony message to Frenkie De Jong
Manchester United have been linked with a move to bring Frenkie De Jong to Old Trafford, but all effort is in vain as he refused to change his mind.
The Dutch midfielder could have gotten the number 21 shirt if he joins Manchester United this summer, but a deal couldn’t go through and after the arrival of Antony, he was handled the shirt number and the message was clear.
De Jong might regret turning Manchester United down as he is now lacking playing time at Barcelona. He failed to reunite with his former manager Erik ten Hag and I think that he would love to join the party now.
