Authorities are contacted by Frenkie de Jong’s attorneys over a “planned media slander campaign” by FC Barcelona.
According to reports, Frenkie de Jong is furious with Barcelona and believes he is the target of a deliberate media smear campaign.
Since the beginning of the summer transfer season, the midfielder has been embroiled in a protracted transfer saga.
Due to his exorbitant salary, Barcelona is keen to get rid of the Dutchman in order to balance the books, but De Jong has so far been reticent to discuss leaving Camp Nou.
The Athletic earlier this week stated that Barcelona had threatened legal action about De Jong’s contract.
According to the article, the club informed De Jong that they wanted to void his current agreement and reinstate the previous one since the provisions of the current one constituted illegal activity and gave rise to grounds for legal action against individuals involved.
De Jong, it seems, was upset by Barcelona’s most recent attempt to persuade him to either leave the team or stay with them on a considerably lesser pay.
In response to Barcelona’s treatment of the 25-year-old, De Jong has reportedly directed his attorneys to get in touch with the Association of Spanish Footballers (AFE), the International Association of Professional Footballers (FIFPro), and La Liga.
De Jong is of the opinion that the Catalan club is waging a smear campaign against him. De Jong will reportedly be resolute and refuse to yield to any requests made by the club, according to the report.
Despite this never-ending story, De Jong is said to be “mentally extremely strong and positive” and anxious to begin the season as a player for Barcelona in order to support his team’s quest for the championship.
De Jong is preparing for this weekend’s encounter against Rayo Vallecano, the club’s first La Liga game of the 22/23 season, and it is said that his connection with manager Xavi is still “quite strong.”
Following this week’s twists, De Jong and his representatives have decided to keep quiet since they are aware that any comments made at this time could harm the player.
De Jong is still a target for Manchester United if he decides to leave Barcelona. The two teams reached an agreement on a fee in July, but the transaction has since stagnated. Chelsea, United’s Premier League opponent, is rumored to be interested in the Dutchman as well.
De Jong: Will he depart or remain in Barcelona? Time will only tell.
