Ballon D’or 2022: Fans believes that Lionel Messi was robbed by France Football amid Karim Benzema’s clear message.
Karim Benzema, Ronaldo, Robert Lewandowski, and Salah are all on France Football’s 30-man shortlist for the male Ballon d’Or.
In the men’s Ballon d’Or voting, reigning champion Lionel Messi was passed over, but Cristiano Ronaldo was chosen.
On Friday, the 30-man shortlist for this year’s award was announced by the event’s organizers, France Football. Additionally, they announced the nominees for the Kopa Trophy and Yashin Trophy for women. On October 17, one month before the World Cup begins, the ceremony will take place.
As a result of his contributions to Real Madrid’s victories in the Champions League, La Liga, Supercopa de Espana, and UEFA Super Cup over the past 12 months, Karim Benzema is the overwhelming favorite to take home the award. Mane and Robert Lewandowski are two other favorites.
The Real Madrid captain sends a clear message in the UEFA Super Cup final against Eintracht Frankfurt and won the trophy. It was his first competitive game as a permanent Real Madrid captain.
He was also nominated for the UEFA men’s player of the year award and he is the favourite player for the prestigious award.
Six Liverpool players, including Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Fabinho, have been nominated for the award. Mohamed Salah is one of them. Erling Haaland, Joao Cancelo, Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez, Son Heung-min, Harry Kane, and Ronaldo are the other Premier League players on the list.
Since 2005, Ronaldo, 37, has appeared on every Ballon d’Or shortlist and has won the award five times. Last time out, Messi, 35, set a record by winning seven, but he won’t add to that total this year. His rejection follows a season in which he only managed to score 11 goals for Paris Saint-Germain.
Fans believe that Lionel Messi was robbed by France football, despite the trophies and goal contributions last season. The supporters believe that he deserves to be nominated.
Three Lionesses were selected for the women’s shortlist. Beth Mead of Arsenal, Lucy Bronze of Barcelona, and Millie Bright of Chelsea have all been chosen after starting England’s victory over Germany in the Women’s Euros final at Wembley last month.
Other contenders include the current champion Alexia Putellas of Barcelona and Ada Hegerberg of Lyon, who made history in 2018 by becoming the first woman to win the Ballon d’Or. The 20-person shortlist includes WSL stars Vivianne Miedema of Arsenal and Sam Kerr of Chelsea.
Ten players have been nominated for the Kopa Trophy, given to the top young player in Europe, including Jude Bellingham and Bukayo Saka. Eduardo Camavinga of Real Madrid, Gavi of Barcelona, and Jamal Musiala of Bayern Munich are additional contenders.
For the Yashin Trophy, which is awarded to the best goalkeeper in Europe, four Premier League goalkeepers have been nominated. Alisson Becker of Liverpool, Ederson of Manchester City, Edourard Mendy of Chelsea, and Hugo Lloris of Tottenham are also contenders.
