Barcelona and Xavi makes final decision on the future of Sergio Busquets amid replacement claim.
None of the four captains of Barcelona, Sergio Busquets, Sergi Roberto, Gerard Pique, and Jordi Alba, have been constants in the first team this season, thus the seasoned players have not had the best of starts.
Busquets has been the team’s most noticeable player thus far, and Xavi continues to think highly of him as a number six option.
This season, the 34-year-old has appeared in five of the eight competitive games. Due to his advanced age, Xavi has lately chosen to rest the midfielder. In the match against Elche, the player was noticeably rested, with Frenkie de Jong filling in at defensive midfield.
Knowing that Busquets would be leaving the squad at the conclusion of the season, it looks that Xavi is attempting to gradually remove the midfielder from the starting lineup.
According to MARCA, who has reported this, Barcelona has reportedly already begun looking for replacements.

The current contract for Busquets at Camp Nou expires in 2023. There are currently no signs that the midfielder’s contract will be extended, despite Barcelona’s earlier attempts to negotiate newer terms with him.
The veteran player, who has even been linked with a move to the United States, looks eager to begin a new chapter in his career. Even some said that Lionel Messi, whose contract at PSG also expires next year, and the Inter Miami FC could reunite.
However, the midfielder’s hazy future at Barcelona is unlikely to have an impact on his chances this season. His leadership, maturity, and experience might be very helpful to Barcelona’s otherwise inexperienced team this season.
Jorginho, a star for Chelsea, reportedly offered his services to Barcelona, but the Blaugrana are not taking the Italian into consideration as a replacement.
