Barcelona are considering selling Ousmane Dembele in January despite his form this season.
Ousmane Dembele only managed to justify his €130 million price tag in 2022, under Xavi’s guidance, after joining Barcelona in 2017 as Neymar’s replacement.
Before then, he suffered from numerous wounds, erratic management, and his own lack of discipline.
But all of it is behind him. Dembele appeared in 21 league games last year and contributed 13 assists. His performance in the second part of the season essentially strengthened his case for a renewal on its own.
But it appears like Barcelona may not have any future intentions for him. According to an ARA report, the club is thinking of selling him in January for a “large sum.”

The Frenchman only has a €100 million release clause in his two-year contract deal with Barça. According to reports, a condition in Dembele’s contract states that if a club triggers that and he pushes to go, he will keep €50 million of the whole sum.
The agent for Dembele also thinks he should leave the team and tried to prevent him from re-signing with Barcelona.
The 25-year-Catalan old’s owners think that selling him would net them a significant transfer price. This goes hand in hand with their efforts to acquire Marcos Asensio for nothing from Real Madrid.
Dembele will have many suitors on the continent if he keeps avoiding injuries like he has this year. Clubs would be eager to sign him and even exceed his release clause.
The story appears absurdly unrealistic, especially in light of Dembele’s shape and the significance of his involvement in Xavi’s project. But if it’s true, Barcelona should surely think twice before taking this action.
