Barcelona wants to sign Zubimendi because they think he is the ideal fit for Busquets’ position. The Spaniard also earns a pittance at the Basque Country club and wouldn’t put a strain on their pay budget, which is already at capacity.
Real Sociedad, on the other hand, will now let their greatest asset to depart without a struggle. The midfielder’s contract, which is valid through the summer of 2025, contains a €60 million release clause.
