According to recent reports, Barcelona wants to sign Diogo Dalot from Manchester United in January.
Up until his Sunday Premier League match against Fulham due to a suspension, Dalot had been in outstanding form for Erik ten Hag’s team this season, starting every game in every competition.
He is now the go-to right-back when both Aaron Wan-Bissaka and he are available, solidifying his position as the first choice.
The Portugal international is a perfect fit for Ten Hag’s system because he can attack down United’s right flank while also developing his defense.
Ten Hag praised Dalot for the advancements made under his leadership earlier in November.
“I hope Diogo keeps improving, not just staying at this level,” he said. We believe that good isn’t good enough and that’s how we go about things. We need to improve.
But it’s clear that we’re pleased with Diogo’s progress and performance.
The 23-year-old’s current contract expires in the summer of 2023, so the Red Devils could run into a problem with him in the future.
However, they do appear to have the player’s 12-month option to extend his contract until 2024, which The Sun claims the club intends to exercise in order to prevent losing one of their prized assets for nothing in the upcoming summer.
Dalot might, however, be persuaded to leave Old Trafford by the allure of one particular club.
Barcelona wants Diogo Dalot badly
According to Man Utd News and the Spanish publication Sport, Dalot is on Barcelona’s shortlist for the January transfer window as they look for a new right-back.
Hector Bellerin, a former Arsenal defender who joined the team on a free transfer in the summer, is the only right-back with natural experience who is currently on the roster.
However, the young left-back Alex Balde has taken the Spaniard’s place this season, making just three La Liga appearances overall.
While Sergino Dest is on loan at AC Milan, Sport claims the club has no plans for the USA international to return to the lineup once his loan period is over.
Barcelona can talk to Dalot in January about a pre-contract agreement or try to purchase him outright if United do not exercise an option on his contract.
Goal labeled the Portuguese star as “undroppable” in September, and his departure from the team for uncharted territory would be a huge loss for Ten Hag and United.
