Barcelona defender has made a decision whether to undergo a surgery ahead of the world cup.
After much deliberation over the course of treatment he should follow, Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo has decided to undergo surgery and not opt for conservative treatment.
This claim comes from Mundo Deportivo, who state that the 23-year-old has decided to go under the knife after consultation with Xavi Hernandez and the rest of Barcelona staff, with whom he had a meeting earlier today.
The Uruguayan picked up a thigh injury during an international friendly against Iran and was expected to be sidelined for close to two months. Surgery would mean that he would be out of action for a little longer than that, potentially ruling out his involvement in the World Cup.

Hence, the national team wanted him to opt for conservative treatment but Araujo has decided to choose surgery keeping in mind his long-term career so that he avoids relapse of the injuries.
The report adds that Araujo will be operated on at the Neo Hospital in Finland by Dr Lasse Lempainen, who has performed surgeries on Ousmane Dembele (thrice) and Sergi Roberto in the past.
The operation could be scheduled for the next Thursday, following which Araujo will likely be out for ten weeks. So, he could be sidelined until Barcelona’s derby encounter against Espanyol on New Year’s eve.
The same has been corroborated by Gerard Romero, who also states that Araujo will be operated on to treat his thigh injury.
Araujo had to make a difficult choice, but after consulting with Diego Alonso, the coach of Uruguay, and the Barcelona staff, the defender decided to have surgery, knowing that it would be best for him long-term even though it would mean missing the World Cup.
