Barcelona makes final decision

Barcelona makes final decision on the signing of €60 million Monaco and Ligue 1 defender.

It is no secret that Barcelona explored several options during the summer tranfser window in their pursuit of a new right-back.

Cesar Azpilicueta was the club’s primary target, but he signed a new contract with Chelsea. There were links to Juan Foyth, but the Villarreal defender’s injury put an end to any hopes of his arrival at Spotify Camp Nou.

Thomas Meunier was also an option considered but Borussia Dortmund were unwilling to let him leave. Ultimately, Barça ended up bringing in Hector Bellerin on a free transfer after Arsenal terminated his contract.

According to a SPORT report, Barcelona considered Vanderson, a promising right-back for AS Monaco, as a potential candidate.

According to the report, the Blaugrana really enjoy the offensive aspects of the 21-year-old Brazilian’s game. He is the perfect fit for the profile that Barça was seeking for since he is big, strong, and powerful while backing up with lightning speed.

Mateu Alemany, the club director, contacted Monaco for Vanderson as a result after being advised by Xavi to replace Sergino Dest at right-back with a new right-back. The Ligue 1 team, however, set a staggering asking price of €60 million for the Brazilian.

Vanderson was also unwilling to be sold by Monaco because they had only recently acquired him from Gremio earlier this year—in January. In any case, Barcelona decided against signing the Brazilian player, although they are still keeping an eye on him.

In fact, Vanderson is one of the targets that the Catalans would consider when looking to add a new right-back next summer. However, they may face competition from Manchester United and other Premier League clubs.

In 2023, Hector Bellerin and Sergi Roberto’s contracts will both expire, necessitating the signing of a new right-back for Spotify Camp Nou. It will be interesting to see if Barcelona pursues Vanderson once more or looks at other options.
