Barcelona midfielder Pablo Gavi makes history as he scored and register one assist for Spain.
Gavi, a wonderkid from Barcelona, keeps getting better and better in 2022. The midfield sensation, who is only 18 years old, has the world at his feet after recently winning the Kopa Trophy and the Golden Boy Award.
In addition, Gavi started for Spain against Costa Rica in their opening Group E match of the tournament, marking his FIFA World Cup debut.
The talented young player added a stunning volleyed goal from the edge of the box to cap off an outstanding all-around performance in the second half to make it a memorable occasion.
As a result, Gavi notched his third goal for Spain and cemented his place in history. Gavi did in fact become the youngest World Cup scorer since Pele’s two goals against Sweden in June 1958 at the age of 18 years and 110 days (17 years and 249 days).
With Pele and Manuel Rosas ahead of him on the list of youngest World Cup goal scorers ever, the Spanish international is now in third place.
It should also be noted that Gavi (17 days, 304 days) holds the record for the youngest goal scorer for the Spanish national team. He set the record in a 2-2 draw with the Czech Republic in June of this year.
Along with the winning goal, Gavi also contributed to Spain’s opening goal of the game, which was scored by Dani Olmo, and he was crucial to the team’s fourth goal, which was scored by Torres early in the second half.
La Roja won the match 7-0 to claim their biggest-ever World Cup victory and set the tone for the remainder of the competition. And Gavi’s teammates, Luis Enrique and company, will be counting on him to play similarly over the upcoming weeks.
