Barcelona missed out on a historic signing due to lack of time, with Martin Braithwaite and Aubameyang’s departure.
It appears that Barcelona’s summer window will finish on a whimper after a lot of rumors and drama built up over the past few hours.
The story began when journalist Gerard Romero asserted that the Blaugrana were engaged in a “surprise signing.” He even went on to say that the unidentified star will earn almost €6 million annually.
Nabil Fekir and Alvaro Morata quickly became the subject of rumors linking them to moves to Barcelona, but both players quickly denied those rumors.
While supporters clung to the notion that there would be some unexpected movement late in the window, it does not appear that anything will happen.
In fact, due to the short amount of time, Barcelona has officially ruled out the idea of completing any additional acquisitions on the deadline day, according to Adrian Sanchez. According to club sources cited by the journalist, “There is no time, there is nothing.”
There won’t likely be any “surprise” signings made, but Barça will still bring in full-backs Hector Bellerin from Arsenal and Marcos Alonso from Chelsea.
In the meantime, players like Sergino Dest, Martin Braithwaite, and Ez Abde (on loan) have departed the team, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is almost done moving to Chelsea.
Memphis Depay was rumored to be following Aubameyang to Stamford Bridge in recent days, but that is no longer the case. Despite recent rumors to the contrary, Miralem Pjanic appears to be remaining put at Spotify Camp Nou.
As a result, there won’t be any unexpected arrivals or departures at Barcelona as the transfer window draws to a close.
