Barcelona mistakenly revealed the new shirt number of Pablo Gavi, Alex Balde and Inaki Pena ahead of the winter window.
Barcelona accidentally revealed the new numbers for up to three players, including midfielder Gavi, left-back Alejandro Balde, and goalkeeper Inaki Pena, in what was intended to be a promotional video for social media.
SPORT, a Spanish publication, reports that even though the team’s video was intended to show off the new locker room facade, it unintentionally revealed the new player identification numbers.
In terms of Gavi, he will switch from wearing the number 30 to the number 6, Balde from the number 28 to the number 12, and Pena from the number 26 to the number 13.
Xavi, the current manager, wore number 6 for Barcelona for a long time. The 42-year-old took ownership of the number in the 2001–02 season and remained its sole owner through the 2014–15 campaign. He participated in 677 games for the team during this time span across all competitions.
After it was retired, people like Riqui Puig, Denis Suarez, Jean-Clair Todibo, and Dani Alves wore it.
The last player to wear Balde’s new number 12 was a man by the name of Martin Braithwaite (2021-22). Puig (2020–21) held the owner position before him. Rafinha was the most notable Barcelona player to wear the number 12 jersey. Between 2014–15 and 2020–21, the ex-player wore the jersey.
The number 13, on the other hand, has primarily been reserved for goalkeepers because Neto Murara previously wore it. After Claudio Bravo vacated it in 2016–17, Jasper Cillessen wore it from 2018–19. The aforementioned modifications are most likely to occur in January.
