Barcelona new signing Raphinha backs Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr over dancing critics earlier this season.
Raphinha, a forward for Barcelona, defended Vinicius Jr., a forward for Real Madrid, by claiming that the latter’s goal celebrations are not provocative. Instead, it is something that every Brazilian enjoys doing.
Vinicius has caused controversy by celebrating by dancing off after goals on several occasions in the past. Although there is some disagreement that it can be frustrating at times, the player has defended his approach in that regard.
Raphinha, who could pay up to €65 million to join Barcelona in July 2022, responded that he approves of his compatriot’s celebration and noted that no one made a big deal out of it when Ronaldinho and Antoine Griezmann did it.
He admitted to SER, “Yes, I like Vinicius’ dancing” (h/t Mundo Deportivo).
“I like that Brazilians dance everywhere. Although I enjoy dancing as well, Vinicius is a better dancer than I am. We never talk about Ronaldinho or Griezmann because we always dance, he continued.
Raphinha arrived with a reputation as a tricky winger, and while he did get his fair share of opportunities early on, the 25-year-old has only been named in the starting XI in one of his last five appearances after posting a goal and two assists.
Speaking about it, he acknowledged that the result has hurt him. “On a personal level, it can be challenging. I only have one goal, but as a striker, I like to score and provide assists. However, my teammates are supporting me, and I put in a lot of effort to ensure that I adapt as quickly as possible.
Vinicius, on the other hand, is in excellent form under Carlo Ancelotti and has already racked up ten goals and five assists this season. Curiously, three of those ten goals have come in his last three games.
