Barcelona reach complete agreement with 31-year-old defender on a four-year deal after missing out on French defender Jules Kounde.
After failing to sign Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli and Jules Kounde from Sevilla, Barcelona has turned its attention to Inigo Martinez of Athletic Club. The 31-year-contract old’s is in its final year.
If the transfer happens this summer, Barcelona and Inigo Martinez have already reached an agreement regarding the personal terms of his contract, according to SPORT.
It will have a four-year term and run through 2026. However, coming to an agreement with Athletic is the challenging part.
According to Radio MARCA, they are willing to accept payment for the Spaniard in two installments of 60 million euros from Barcelona.
Since Athletic run the risk of losing Martinez to a free transfer the following year, this is especially surprising.
Barcelona wants to finalize this acquisition as soon as possible and is anticipated to make an official offer this week.
