Barcelona striker told his teammates that he will stay even if the club sign six more forwards this summer.
Memphis Depay, a forward for Barcelona, is determined about staying at Barcelona for the upcoming season, according to a recent report from SPORT.
According to reports, he has assured his teammates that he plans to remain with the squad “even if six more forwards are signed.”
At the beginning of the 2021/22 season, Memphis served as Barcelona’s best player when Antoine Griezmann left the team to rejoin Atletico Madrid. Until he was fired, Ronald Koeman used the Dutchman effectively and got the greatest performance out of him.
But when Xavi arrived, everything changed. With a classic no. 9, the Spaniard obviously preferred runners on the wings.
Memphis’ chosen roles of striker and left flank were filled by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Ferran Torres, who Barcelona bought during the same transfer window.
Since the summer transfer window opened, his condition has gotten progressively worse. Ansu Fati has recovered from his injuries, and Barça spent about €100 million to sign Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha.
Ideally, leaving the club would result from having six forwards ahead of one in the pecking order. Memphis appears prepared to battle for his position, though.
Currently in the final year of his contract, Barcelona is hoping to secure his services for €20 million should he opt to leave.
Xavi Hernandez has left the likes of Martin Braithwaite and Samuel Umtiti out of his squad as they don’t have a future at the club.
The Spanish manager is ready to lose Frenkie De Jong and Memphis Depay this summer, but it seems like both Dutch stars are not ready for a move away.
Manchester United have been linked with a move for both players as Barcelona want €20m for Memphis and €85m for Frenkie De Jong m
