Barcelona target Diogo Dalot is expected to be handled an extension at Manchester United.
Because of Hector Bellerin’s performance, FC Barcelona is looking for a replacement right-back following a dismal start to his career.
The ex-Arsenal player was signed on the cheap. The Spaniard hasn’t played for Barça since suffering an injury during the international break, though. Along with this, other options like Jules Kounde and Ronald Araujo have been hurt.
As a result, Xavi Hernandez is now effectively without a reliable right-back option. With Diogo Dalot emerging as one of their main targets, the club is determined to recruit a fresh option soon.
The Portuguese international has had a great start to life under Erik ten Hag and has emerged as one of Manchester United’s most reliable performances.
The Premier League, though, might make Barcelona’s pursuit of Dalot challenging, claims Mundo Deportivo. The defender’s current contract ends at the end of the current campaign, but Manchester United have a specific condition that allows them to extend it for one additional year.
The Red Devils have not yet extended a new contract to Dalot, according to the report. They are, however, getting ready to present a fresh deal just after the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
The one-year extension clause is set to be activated by Manchester United if the Portuguese international rejects the contract offer. Even though it’s possible the player may still leave Old Trafford in 2023, it will help Man United make some money from the deal.
One of the teams who will probably compete to recruit Dalot next summer is Barcelona. The former SL Benfica sensation has shown tremendous promise thus far and may end up paying off for the team in the long run.
