Bernardo Silva’s father sent a clear warning over failed Barcelona move this summer, with the Portuguese midfielder ending up in the EPL this summer.
All summer long, Barcelona was frequently mentioned as a potential destination for Manchester City sensation Bernardo Silva. The deal, however, fell through, and the renowned Portuguese football player remained at the Etihad Stadium.
The 28-year-old, along with Jules Kounde and Robert Lewandowski, was one of Barça’s top summer transfer targets. While they were successful in signing the latter two, a move for Silva was unsuccessful for a number of reasons.
First off, Man City had placed a price tag of €100 million on him because they were unwilling to let go of one of their key players.
It became clear that Silva wanted to transfer, and they ultimately warmed to the notion of selling him, but a bid from Barcelona did not come in on time.
Ultimately, Silva and City concluded it was too late to make a transfer, therefore Barça’s last-minute effort to close the deal was insufficient.
Bernardo Silva’s father, Paulo Silva, opened up to Stats Perform (h/t MARCA) about the unsuccessful trade to Barcelona, saying:
There were numerous discussions, but no firm offer was made when we believed it was appropriate. When it finally came, we understood that it was no longer the ideal time for all parties.
Since Bernardo is a mature athlete who is 28 years old, things must be done calmly and not emotionally. It was not the best situation for him.
Although a move for Silva may not have taken place this summer, rumors claim that Barcelona are still interested in the 28-year-old Portuguese international and are already plotting a new approach to capture him in 2019.
Silva has continued to play for Manchester City and has already contributed to two goals in six Premier League games, boosting his team reach second position.
