Brazil are afraid as they believe that Vinicius Jr could be targeted like Neymar Jr by the opponents.
Brazil’s 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign may have started out on a winning note, but it came at the expense of superstar Neymar suffering an injury.
On Thursday night, the Serbian national team made some very tough challenges against the PSG attacker, and he ultimately had to leave the game late due to an ankle injury.
Now, Neymar’s right ankle injury has been confirmed by Brazilian physician Rodrigo Lesmar. The forward from Brazil’s participation in the remaining World Cup group matches is also seriously questioned.
Following the incident, MARCA reports that the Brazil camp believes Neymar was singled out by the Serbian team during the match because the former Barcelona star was called for the most fouls that evening.
According to the report, the team is now concerned that Real Madrid winger Vinicius Jr. could be the next player to be singled out by rivals in a manner similar to how Neymar was.
Vinicius has been in excellent form for Real Madrid this year, and he was able to carry that over to the international stage when he helped Brazil defeat Serbia 2-0.
However, the 22-year-old has experienced some harsh treatment from rival teams while representing Real Madrid throughout the course of the season. Brazil is currently concerned that the pattern might continue at the World Cup.
The Selecao, who are among the favorites to win the competition, will play Switzerland in their final group match before taking on Cameroon.
Neymar might not play in either of those games, so Vinicius’ Real Madrid teammate Rodrygo Goes is believed to be in line to start in Neymar’s place.
