Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid are battling it out with Barcelona and Man City for the signing of Spanish star.
Alberto Moleiro, a 19-year-old attacking midfielder for Las Palmas, is arguably the most intriguing prospect at the moment playing in the Segunda Division.
Barcelona has reportedly been considering making a move, but it appears that they are not the only team in the running. The likes of Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool, Manchester City, and Real Madrid are reportedly also interested in the young midfielder, according to the Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo.
Journalist Gabriel Sans claims in a piece for the aforementioned publication that City and Madrid are the newest teams to enter the fight because Liverpool and Barcelona were the only teams to do so previously.
However, the fact that Las Palmas is being led by Garcia Pimienta, a former Barça B manager, gives Barcelona the upper hand in the negotiations. Pimienta has already given Barcelona the reassurance that Moleiro has a distinct Barça profile.
According to Pimienta, “He has a very high ceiling, in a very short time, in top-level teams,” according to Mundo Deportivo. Though we’re using big words, he “has a clear Barça profile,” the man continued.
Before focusing on the potential suitors, it’s crucial to remember that Moleiro is under contract with Las Palmas through 2026 and has a €30 million release clause. If the team is promoted to the first division, the amount will increase to €60 million.
Given that Las Palmas is only three points behind league-leading Alaves in the standings with 27 points, the likelihood of the aforementioned happening is pretty high.
It’s interesting to note that Barcelona was also interested in Moleiro last summer. The Catalans were unable to pay Las Palmas’ initial demand of €10 million plus €15 million in variables.
Since Real Madrid and a number of other elite teams, including Manchester City, Liverpool, and Borussia Dortmund, are now also interested in Moleiro, a transfer war for his signing could break out this summer.
Real Madrid will be eager to get one over Barça by luring Moleiro before they do after missing out on Pablo Torre earlier this year.
