Chelsea announced the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as he is set to break the number ‘9 curse’ at Chelsea.
It has been revealed that Chelsea has finalised the acquisition of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona.
After Chelsea agreed to a transfer for the Gabon international, the 33-year-old joins the Blues on Deadline Day, allowing Marcos Alonso to go as a free agent and supporting Thomas Tuchel’s attacking line at Chelsea.
After joining Chelsea in 2016, Alonso has played 211 times for the Blues throughout his tenure there. He has won the Premier League, Champions League, Europa League, FA Cup, Club World Cup, and Super Cup during that time.
The Spain international was coveted by Barcelona and a trade has been agreed which sees Aubameyang pen a two-year deal at Stamford Bridge.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang made a big decision on taking the Chelsea number 9 shirt, which the fans believe that it’s cursed.
Most of the players who wore the famous shirt number failed at the club, but Aubameyang could break the curse following his move to the EPL.
He told the official Chelsea website that he was “very thrilled” to be joining the Blues and expressed his happiness. I’m excited to get started and consider it an honor to be a member of this team.
It’s nice to be back and incredibly thrilled because I have some unfinished business with the Premier League.
Added Todd Boehly “Our squad is strengthened by the addition of Pierre-Emerick, an elite striker with a successful record in the Premier League, who gives us fresh offensive alternatives.
In the new age at Chelsea, “We are happy to have Pierre-Emerick on board with us and we genuinely look forward to working with him.”
Behdad Eghbali and José E. Feliciano, the co-controlling shareholders, continued: “The return of Pierre-Emerick to London is one of Chelsea’s final and most significant summer additions, and we are thrilled to have him.
“He’s a world-class forward and a leader, and we can’t wait to see him in blue this season.”
Aubameyang will add some much-needed firepower to Chelsea’s front-line, but he will have to wait for his debut after suffering a broken jaw in a recent robbery of his home in Barcelona.
He will add competition to Kai Havertz and Armando Broja in the centre-forward spot.
Thomas Tuchel reunites with the 33-year-old of whom he worked with at Borussia Dortmund.
Chelsea will pay a price of €12 million for Aubameyang this summer, according to confirmation from Barcelona.
Alonso was freed from his contract with Chelsea, and his move to Spain is expected to be official on Friday morning.
Tuchel though has his guy. Aubameyang and Tuchel now have to deliver after receiving the support from the new owners.
