According to a report, Chelsea has added their name to the list of teams interested in signing Frenkie de Jong of Barcelona.
According to SPORT, Manchester United, Liverpool, and now Chelsea are all interested in signing De Jong.
The majority of the summer transfer window seemed to be spent by United pursuing De Jong, only for them to go and steal Casemiro from Real Madrid in the final weeks.
The young Dutch midfielder was also desired by Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, according to a report from SPORT.
However, Graham Potter and Chelsea are now pushing to sign De Jong as the new Blues manager looks to completely overhaul his midfield. Barca will only sell if a “irresistible offer” is made.
According to reports, Potter ‘no matter what’ wants De Jong in his midfield.
Barcelona, however, will not sell without a “irresistible offer,” as United was informed in the summer.
With that bid, a club might be forced to exercise De Jong’s release clause.
The 25-year-old made a £347 million release clause part of the deal when he left Ajax to join the Catalan club back in 2019.
Not only Chelsea will require midfielders in the upcoming summer.
James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all have contracts that expire in the summer of 2018, and Liverpool already appears to be lacking in the midfield department.
