Chelsea has submitted a €50 Million offer for Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez after Southampton defeat on Tuesday night.
According to rumours, Chelsea has made a €50 million offer for Edson Alvarez of Ajax.
The day is left for Thomas Tuchel’s team to complete all of their summer transfer business, and after Wesley Fofana’s arrival was announced on Wednesday, they still want to add more players.
Chelsea’s midfield is a weakness. Mateo Kovacic is gradually getting back to full fitness following a knee issue, while N’Golo Kante, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and Mateo Kovacic are all nursing injuries.
Tuchel acknowledged their lack of depth in the middle of the field on Tuesday night, but he remained guarded when asked if they would look to add players to the mix to bolster that position.
“After their 2-1 loss at Southampton, Tuchel remarked of Loftus-Cheek, “Hamstring injury, next midfielder out.”
“No one got out. Kovacic was given the advice to rest for 20 minutes. I also don’t understand why all of the midfield players are injured at this time. Need to find answers”
According to The Telegraph, Brighton is in the lead in the race to sign the Scottish international on a long-term contract, therefore Chelsea appears to be willing to allow Billy Gilmour depart the team.
Now that his departure is certain, Mike Verweij in Holland is reporting that Chelsea has made a $50 million offer for Alvarez.
He gives the Blues versatility as a defensive midfielder who can also play in central defense.
Alvarez, 24, is eager to move to the Premier League and has demanded that Ajax start transfer negotiations with Chelsea.
After the loss and before the deadline on Thursday at 11 p.m. (BST), Tuchel was circumspect about fresh hires.
“We can play more effectively with the individuals in this room if we require players from outside.
The number of players absent from our team is the biggest worry right now. That is the area of emphasis.
“What it reminded me of was Juventus last season,” he continued. Last season, we had a wonderful match, but Chilly missed eight months and Kante missed three.
“We played against Tottenham in a wonderful match, but our key man is now sidelined for six weeks.
Conor is not in. Ruben is hurt. Due to a preseason injury, Mateo Kovacic is out today, and Reece is also absent.
“It’s just the way it is with our demands. If these essential actors are not there, it would be even more crucial for us to exhibit a different approach.”
