Chelsea midfielder ready to wait for Barcelona to make an offer in January over a winter move.
As Barcelona searches for a new midfielder in 2023, a number of names have been mentioned as potential additions to Spotify Camp Nou. Jorginho, a midfielder for Chelsea, is one of those players.
The 30-year-old is in the final year of his Chelsea contract and reportedly turned down the Premier League powerhouses’ opening offer of a renewal worth £120,000 per week.
Jorginho is reportedly willing to hold off signing a contract until January, according to SPORT.
Joao Santos, the agent for the Italian international, recently met with representatives from the club. And according to the report, the midfielder promised during the meeting that he would wait to make a decision about his future until he had heard the Catalan giants’ offer.
However, it was also made clear to the Blaugrana that Jorginho does not want to wait until June, when he would be eligible for free agency, to decide on his future. He wants it resolved by January, one way or another.
Sergio Busquets, the club captain, will probably leave Barcelona in the summer when his contract expires.
They will also require a successor for the seasoned star in the pivot position, and the team is even willing to expedite its plans by signing a player in January.
Jorginho has become a viable alternative in that regard because of his experience and prospective free agency at the end of the season.
The Italian international, though, won’t hold out for the team past January. While Juventus in Italy is also showing interest in the 30-year-old, Chelsea is anticipated to make another offer for him.
It will be intriguing to watch if the Catalan powerhouses put forth a bid for the former Napoli star by January.
According to the report, it would rely on a variety of variables, including Frenkie de Jong’s future because the team would need to create way for another midfielder and the pay budget.
