Former Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo ‘banished’ from the first team after he refused to come on as a substitute and left Old Trafford.
After declining to enter as a substitute in Wednesday’s victory over Tottenham, Cristiano Ronaldo has been expelled from Manchester United’s first-team lineup.
In the Premier League game at Old Trafford, which resulted in a 2-0 victory for United, Ronaldo did not come off the bench.
The Portuguese superstar may be seen leaving the field before the end of regulation.
He reportedly departed the stadium before the game was over, according to a later account.
Now, according to The Daily Mail, Ronaldo turned down a late-game substitution.
According to the report, Ronaldo was instructed to continue by Erik ten Hag but disobeyed the order before leaving the field.
After the game, Ten Hag indicated he would “handle” with the circumstance in the morning because Ronaldo will resume training at Carrington on Thursday.
According to The Athletic, Ronaldo has been dismissed from the first-team group and must now train by himself.
The striker will not play in Saturday’s vital Premier League match at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea.
Ten Hag and Ronaldo are alleged to have reached their “breaking point,” with the star eager to leave the club in January and Ten Hag “glad to let him go.”
In an effort to compel a transfer to a team participating in the Champions League, Ronaldo submitted a transfer request during the summer transfer window.
The Portugal international, however, was unable to get a transfer, and under Ten Hag, he has been forced to make due with a supporting role this season.
In 12 appearances across all competitions this season, Ronaldo has only managed to score twice.
In response to Ronaldo’s behavior against Spurs, former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel said he was “disappointed.”
Schmeichel remarked in a BBC Radio 5 Live interview: “For the first time, I can express my dissatisfaction with him. Normally, I would support him because I can relate to him.”
In the meantime, Ten Hag has been charged by Piers Morgan with disrespecting the five-time Ballon d’Or winner this year.
Morgan wrote on social media that Ten Hag “seems to relish in humiliating Cristiano.”
“It is just staggeringly disrespectful to United’s leading scorer last season to keep the greatest footballer in history on the bench, make him warm up repeatedly, and then not even use him as a substitute.”
