The same thing was brought up by Man United supporters on social media as soon as Martinez’s new jersey number was made public.
The fans are ecstatic about Lisandro Martinez’s new shirt number for Manchester United.
After the deal had been all but finalized for weeks, the Argentinian’s arrival at United was officially confirmed on Wednesday. Christian Eriksen, another recent addition, was seen driving the new defender into Carrington. Christian Eriksen and the new defender both played at Ajax, though not at the same time.
The 24-year-old was quickly put to the test as he participated in a friendly match against Wrexham behind closed doors. Martinez missed the team’s preseason tour of Thailand and Australia, therefore it was his first opportunity to play alongside his new teammates.
The legalities were finished after Martinez signed a contract committing him to United through 2027. The announcement of the defender’s new shirt number was the only addition, and it generated quite a stir among fans on social media.
Martinez will start the 2022–23 season with the number six jersey, according to United. The club uploaded an image on Twitter to confirm the news.
It didn’t take long for United supporters to notice that Martinez didn’t choose the number 21 jersey, which is currently worn by Frenkie de Jong of Barcelona. They also expressed their joy over what they perceived to be a “improvement” over Paul Pogba, the previous club member to don the number.
