Edinson Cavani recently acknowledged in an interview (h/t SPORT) that he need therapy as a result of seeing Barcelona’s remontada against his old team Paris Saint-Germain in the 2016–17 campaign.
The aforementioned match took place in the Round of 16 contest between the two juggernauts of European football in the UEFA Champions League. After PSG’s 4-0 victory in the first leg, which was played at Parc des Princes, it appeared as though they would advance to the next round.
But Barcelona pulled off an incredible comeback in the second leg at Camp Nou, winning 6-1 to win the match on the road and go to the quarterfinals of the competition with a score of 6-5.
It was one of the greatest comebacks in football history when Luis Enrique’s Barça team startled Unai Emery and his PSG squad, who thought they had a shot at the quarterfinals after the first leg.

Cavani, a member of that PSG team who scored in both the home and away games, has recently said that the loss to Barcelona hurt him mentally and that he needed to frequently see a therapist in order to move past it.
The Uruguayan said: “I went to therapy after Barça’s comeback against PSG. I currently play for La Liga team Valencia.
“I was greatly impacted by Barça’s comeback at PSG. Even though it’s just football, you as a person are affected. After that, I began to experience anxiety symptoms, cold sweats, and pre-sleep vertigo. I also developed a fear of falling asleep. I used to question, “Am I mentally ill?”
After that, Cavani remained at PSG for another three years until departing for Manchester United in 2020. After spending two seasons in England, he has since joined Valencia and will take on Barcelona in La Liga later this month.
