Eduardo Camavinga beaten to Golden Boy award by Barca’s Pablo Gavi as he comes second.
Eduardo Camavinga, a midfielder for Real Madrid, lost out to Barcelona’s Gavi for the Golden Boy 2022 Award.
Today’s press presentation at the Hotel Villa Igiea in Palermo announced the 20th recipient of the esteemed award.
Along with Jude Bellingham of Borussia Dortmund, Jamal Musiala of Bayern Munich, and the Golden Boy Award winner, Gavi of Barcelona, Camavinga made it to the final four.
Camavinga moved from Rennes to Real Madrid last year. Carlo Ancelotti, the manager, gradually introduced the midfielder to action despite the fact that his skill was undeniable.
Despite a few stumbles along the road, the Frenchman ultimately proved his talent and potential, particularly in the latter part of the campaign when he played pivotal cameos in Real Madrid’s run-up to the Champions League and La Liga victories.
Camavinga has participated in 55 matches for Real Madrid thus far, scoring two goals and assisting two more. The 19-year-old recently lost out to Barcelona teen Gavi for the Kopa Trophy.
No Real Madrid player has ever won the Golden Boy award to date. While Isco did win it for 2012, it came when he was still at Malaga, a year before he made the switch to the Santiago Bernabeu.
There was some joy for Real Madrid though as Florentino Perez was named the Best President of a European Club while Karim Benzema won the award for the Golden Player Man, coming after his recent Ballon d’Or triumph.
