England Will Play Germany In The Women’s Euro 2022 Final, after Germany’s shocking victory to proceed to the final round of the competition.
After defeating France in the Women’s European Championship semifinal on Wednesday night, Germany will play England in the championship game at Wembley Stadium.
The team of Martina Voss-Tecklenburg, who is going for the tournament’s ninth victory overall, gained the lead thanks to some outstanding performance from Alexandra Popp.
The 31-year-old VfL Wolfsburg attacker became the first person to score in five straight women’s Euros games when she volleyed in in the 40th minute.
Popp’s goal-scoring prowess has allowed her to tie Michel Platini’s French national team record from the men’s Euros in 1984.
However, France equalized four minutes later when Kadidiatou Diani’s shot hit the post, hit goalkeeper Merle Frohms, and went in.
The Germans suffered a defeat, but they persisted in showing encouraging signs throughout the second half. The prolific Alexandra Popp added a second goal to make it 2-1 in the 76th minute.
The seasoned forward successfully headed it in from a fantastic cross. What a competition she’s in.
Late in the game, France made a push, but the tournament favorites, Germany, will face Sarina Wiegman’s Three Lions in the championship game on Sunday.
After defeating Sweden 4-0 on Tuesday, England qualified for the championship match at Wembley with to goals from Beth Mead, Lucy Bronze, Alessia Russo, and Fran Kirby.
According to Wiegman, England is prepared to rewrite history in the Sunday final.
After the final buzzer, she remarked, “We said before the tournament and throughout that we want to inspire the nation, and I think that’s what we’re doing and making a difference.”
The entire nation is proud of us, and more kids will want to play football as a result.
“We have faith in this team,” she continued, “as long as our players remain composed and follow the game plan. In the circumstances we discussed, both good and bad things could happen.
“We can rely on one another, complete our work, and rejoin the team.”
