Erik ten Hag rules two Manchester United players out vs Brentford and gives Cristiano Ronaldo update.
Cristiano Ronaldo could start for Manchester United against Brentford after sitting out against Brighton.
Anthony Martial is still out, according to Erik ten Hag, but Cristiano Ronaldo could start for Manchester United against Brentford on Saturday.
Ronaldo was substituted in the 53rd minute of Brighton’s 2-1 loss, but he will play at Brentford because he is deemed match-fit.
Martial’s hamstring injury from the friendly loss to Atletico Madrid in Oslo two weeks ago keeps him out of action.
Another player out with an injury who was unable to participate in the Brighton game was Victor Lindelof.
So, Ten Hag said of Ronaldo, “He had a good training week.” “I believed he played for a little bit longer than 30 minutes; he has played in two half-games, and tomorrow will reveal his starting XI. I maintain my choice (as to whether he starts).
Victor Lindelof and Martial won’t be available this weekend, either.
Last week, United lost to Brighton, suffering their seventh opening-round loss in the Premier League era. This summer’s recruitment process has also descended into farce as a result of United’s withdrawal of interest in Marko Arnautovic after making a €8 million bid for the Bologna forward last week.
Ten Hag responded, “What I always do after every game: I analyse the game, what went well, what went wrong, where can we improve, what do we have to improve, and how we can train.
And we explain to the players how to get better in order to find solutions.
We gained a lot of knowledge, but I believe that making mistakes at the beginning of the season is normal as the team comes together and plays in a new way. Football is a mistake-filled sport. Clearly, we need to get better at a lot of things.
I am aware that pressure is constant. I am aware of the situation because of my experience, and I know that we must win every game. I am also familiar with the fans and am aware that everyone expects Manchester United to win every game.
