Footage of Casemiro getting revenge on James Milner has resurfaced after a €70 million Manchester United move this summer.
After James Milner, a midfielder for Real Madrid, was rumored to be moving to Manchester United, video of Casemiro’s vicious challenge on Milner reappeared online.
A deal for Casemiro, estimated to cost around £60 million, has been widely reported as being close to being secured by United. And a video of him bumping into the Liverpool star has now gained new popularity.
The video was resurrected in part because Casemiro might make his debut on Monday against Liverpool if United completes the signing process quickly enough.
The clip transports us to April 2021, when Madrid traveled to Anfield with a 3-1 first-leg advantage to play in the Champions League quarterfinals.
As they had to win the game, Jurgen Klopp’s team was ready, and Milner made a hard attack on Karim Benzema after only a few minutes.
The situation was not pretty, but Milner was fortunate not to get the boot and even more fortunate not to be arrested.
But Casemiro did not forget that challenge, and on behalf of Benzema, he exacted retribution on the Englishman later in the first half.
Right in front of Liverpool’s replacement bench, the Brazilian collided with Milner and sent him flying off the field.
Andy Robertson rushed over to confront the Brazilian since he didn’t like the challenge.
Madrid ultimately emerged victorious, holding on to draw 0-0, ensuring that they advanced to the semifinals at Liverpool’s cost.
United are in severe need of Casemiro’s combative attitude in the middle of the pitch, where he is renowned for it.
The current midfield lineups chosen by Erik ten Hag are frequently referred to as soft. The fundamental issue is that none of the midfielders appear to be able to play in the manner that the Dutch coach prefers.
As evidenced by the fact that they were soundly defeated by Brighton and Brentford in their opening two league contests Following both losses, Scott McTominay and people like him were singled out for criticism.
Apart from Casemiro, Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has been a target for United since the opening day of the summer transfer season.
It appears that United has been forced to search elsewhere for midfield reinforcements in what seems to be a never-ending transfer drama.
De Jong has been emphatic that he wants to stay with the Catalan giants despite a deal having been agreed upon between the two clubs in July. The 25-year-old is thought to have made his home in the city and is eager to compete for a spot on Xavi’s club.
