Four Barcelona players among the final 40 nominees for the Golden Boy 2022 award.

As many as four Barcelona stars are among the 40 nominees left for the Golden Boy 2022, which is considered one of football’s most coveted honors.

Pedri won the award in 2021 and has been nominated for it once more despite having a campaign marred by injuries the previous time around.

Gavi, another young phenom, is included on the nominations list with the 19-year-old midfielder. Last season, the 18-year-old experienced an incredible breakthrough season at Barcelona and quickly established himself as a regular for the Spanish national team as well.

Ansu Fati, a teenage player from Barcelona, is also up for the Golden Boy award. The 19-year-old forward is in the running for the award despite having another injury-plagued season last time out. He displayed polish and talent each time he took the pitch.

Alejandro Balde, the last member of the 40-player shortlist for the Golden Boy award for 2022, represents Barça. Under Ronald Koeman, the youthful full-back made his senior debut the previous season but spent the entire campaign with the club’s reserve squad.

He has, however, developed this year and is now Spotify Camp Nou’s first-choice left-back.

The Barcelona quartet will go up against talents like Jude Bellingham (Borussia Dortmund), Ryan Gravenberch (Bayern Munich), Antony (Manchester United), Jamal Musiala (Bayern Munich), Benjamin Sesko (RB Salzburg), Eduardo Camavinga (Real Madrid) and Xavi Simons (PSV), among others.

The list will further be shortened to 20 before the jury votes on the winner next month.
