“He is not the right signing for Erik Ten Hag” Manchester United legend claims, as Casemiro joins the Red Devils.
After acquiring Casemiro, their fifth signing of the year, Manchester United is aiming to add a number of players before the transfer window closes.
The Brazilian player joins Manchester United at a time when they are in desperate need of midfielders.
The club pursued Frenkie de Jong for a significant portion of the summer, but that deal now appears to be all but dead.
Dwight Yorke, a former Red Devil, responded to Lord Ping’s inquiry over the acquisition of Casemiro by saying, “Casemiro is a great player with pedigree, but he clearly wasn’t the first choice pick otherwise United would have signed him in June.
“Perhaps the player was looking for a new challenge and thought joining United would be a terrific opportunity… I don’t think he is the kind of player United need right now, but since they are having trouble attracting top targets, I imagine they got creative and signed the best player they could.
Recent seasons have seen a substantial decline in Manchester United’s ability to sign the best players in the world, primarily as a result of lower position finishes and a lack of sustained Champions League football.
Despite the fact that City and Liverpool are now more alluring clubs for players, Yorke claimed that United used to be able to select the greatest players in Europe.
“United has lost out on players as a result of not making the Champions League and not playing opulent and showy football. We’ve been catching up for way too long, in my opinion.
“Over the last few seasons, the kind of athletes we have been able to draw has been one level below outstanding. That need to alter.
Erik ten Hag’s ultimate ambition is to win the Premier League, but even though his team has occasionally been in the top three, there hasn’t been a serious title push since 2013.
Regarding United’s chances of winning the Premier League, Yorke said: “We haven’t really challenged for the league title in a while, and I don’t think the recruitment has helped.
It appears that the downturn has been allowed to worsen, and every year it has made recruiting harder.
Over the past five seasons, Manchester City and Liverpool have largely dominated the Premier League. The former has strengthened their strike force by bringing in Erling Haaland.
In 2020, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the manager at the time, frequently flew out to chat with his fellow countryman, Haaland, who ultimately decided to join Borussia Dortmund. Haaland was strongly linked to a move to Manchester United.
Erling Haaland, who Yorke believed United should have acquired some years ago, was unfortunately signed by City this summer.
“I’ve been saying it for a while. I believe United should have spent a fortune to acquire him from Salzburg three years ago.
“I feel that the club has been lacking a strong number 9 for a long time now,” the player said. “You look at that decision and view that as a missed chance.”
