Highlights: Real Madrid defeats Juventus to prepare for the European Super Cup.
After a strong showing against Juventus in their penultimate game of their tour of the United States of America, Real Madrid seemed to be getting closer to reaching their peak. Before Marco Asensio completed the 2-0 victory, Karim Benzema scored from the penalty spot.
Early on in the game, both sides launched attacks. Juventus’ Leonardo Bonucci got the closest, hitting the crossbar with a long-range free kick. Vinicius Junior was brought down in the area as a result of one of the great combinations Los Blancos was putting together, allowing Benzema to score the penalty.
The Frenchman nearly scored a few times himself as Real Madrid were threatening on the break. Just after the hour mark, Carlo Ancelotti then replaced all 10 of his outfield players to rest his starting lineup.
Ancelotti used the same lineup that prevailed in the Champions League final in the European Super Cup final matchup against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Shortly after, Jesus Vallejo squared the ball for Marco Asensio to tap in thanks to a deft play by Eden Hazard.
The major opportunities came to an end at that point, and Ancelotti would have been pleased with his team’s defensive sturdiness in this friendly after they had been more flimsy in earlier games.
