Huesca refused to pay Nwakali as the Super Eagle star revealed that the team refused to pay him after he represented Nigeria at AFCON.
The 23-year-old Super Eagle midfielder has stated that he has experienced the biggest honour of his life.
Kelechi Nwakali earned a call-up to the Nigeria squad for his first ever AFCON tournament and the club told him not to go. He was told that it’s not an important tournament.
Here’s what to know following the termination of his contract with the Spanish second division side.
The team terminated his contract on Tuesday.
KelechiNwakali: “I experienced the biggest honour of my life after I received a full international call-up to represent my beloved country Nigeria”.
“Though the joy of this moment quickly came crashing down when the club’s Sporting director Ruben Garcia, puts an extreme pressure on me not to go to AFCON, due to it’s not an important tournament”.
“He told me that if I go to AFCON, I will not play for the club again”.
“For months the club has been abusing its power to bully me into signing a new contract”.
“The break down came when my mother was ill and I asked Ruben for the wages the club already owed me, in order to pay for my mother’s hospital bill and treatment”.
“Before Nigeria last 16 game against Tunisia, I began to feel unwell and was diagnosed with respiratory tract infections”.
“After we were eliminated from the AFCON, I was unable to return to the club immediately as planned because of my illness following advice from the doctor”.
Kelechi Nwakali doesn’t deserve this treatment and I think that something should be done about this.
Huesca refused to pay Nwakali and terminated his contract on Tuesday despite his illness. It’s an unacceptable decision making by the club.
