John Murtough’s reaction after Manchester United fan asks about Frenkie de Jong transfer.
Although the trade issue has stretched on for months, Man United is still interested in Frenkie de Jong of Barcelona.
John Murtough, the manager of Manchester United, laughed off a supporter’s remark that the club should sign Frenkie de Jong on Saturday.
With the additions of Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, and Lisandro Martinez, United has had a fruitful summer thus far. Erik ten Hag’s team has begun to take shape. However, there is still plenty to be done, and additional help is needed, particularly in midfield.
De Jong has been United’s top target for three months, but despite having an agreement in place with Barcelona to sign the Dutchman for several weeks, they have been unable to complete the transaction.
De Jong’s unwillingness to leave the Camp Nou is primarily to blame for this, especially because Barcelona has tried all in their power to force him out of the team and he still has millions in unpaid pay on the table.
United will be hoping for a breakthrough soon because there is precisely one month left in the transfer window; otherwise, they may have to move on to other targets.
Murtough, the director of United, has been at the center of negotiations; recently, he traveled to Barcelona to attempt to push the deal through. On Saturday, he was in Oslo for Ten Hag’s team’s friendly match against Atletico Madrid.
In a video that was shared on social media, a group of supporters had gathered in the airport on Saturday to see the squad, and as Murtough was passing through, one yelled, “Get Frenkie!” Murtough didn’t respond, but he did recognize the fan before flashing a sly smirk that made the crowd giggle.

Ten Hag noted last month that United must recruit the proper player while discussing how to improve his midfield. The appropriate person must be found because we are seeking for someone who can play holding midfield.
There aren’t many people in that position who can perform at the level we require. If we can’t find him, we’ll deal with the guys on our roster right now and train someone to fill that role.
“I won’t retaliate against a specific player. We require the ideal player. We fit the criteria for the player who is qualified to play that role on the list. The moment the player becomes available, we will attack.
