Jose Mourinho prepared to offer Barcelona flop an escape from the Camp Nou in the winter.
This season, Hector Bellerin’s return to Barcelona has not gone as expected. After his contract at Arsenal expired, the 27-year-old returned to his childhood team by signing a Bosman deal on the final day of the summer transfer window.
Bellerin was brought in as a last-minute addition to strengthen the right-back position, but due to fitness issues and inconsistent play, he hasn’t performed well for the Blaugrana thus far.
In fact, manager Xavi Hernandez has been using left-back Alejandro Balde instead of Hector Bellerin at right-back. The former Arsenal star has only appeared in five games for Barça this season, across all competitions.
Bellerin’s contract was set to expire at the end of the current campaign, so the likelihood of a renewal had been dwindling. However, rather than letting the Spaniard leave for nothing in the summer, Barça can now make money off of him in the January transfer window.
Indeed, Bellerin has surfaced as a January transfer target for Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma, according to Italian reports relayed by Mundo Deportivo. To replace Rick Karsdorp, the Serie A powerhouses plan to search for a new right-back in January.
In a recent press conference following the game against Sassuolo, Mourinho berated a star for Roma and declared that he would release that player in January. Although he did not name the player, it is assumed that the Portuguese tactician singled out Karsdorp, who currently appears to be leaving the team.
