Cristiano Ronaldo has stated his intention to quit Manchester United this summer.
Karim Benzema has acknowledged that Cristiano Ronaldo leaving Real Madrid allowed him to regain his goal-scoring form, which may be good news for Manchester United if he moves this summer.
Ronaldo’s intention to quit the club just a year after his return has been one of the major stumbling blocks Erik ten Hag has encountered in the early parts of his United tenure. It’s believed that his desire to go has been fueled by a lack of Champions League games, the club’s lack of success in the transfer window, and a 25% wage cut mandated on the team after missing the top four.
Due to family obligations, the Portuguese missed the most of preseason, and after leaving the friendly against Rayo Vallecano early, he received criticism from the management. He didn’t start against Brighton on opening weekend, although he did enter the game early in the second half.
Despite United’s insistence that Ronaldo is not for sale and the absence of any interested parties, the idea of losing him is frightening given Ten Hag’s dearth of attacking options. Ten Hag started Christian Eriksen up front against Brighton since Anthony Martial was injured and Ronaldo wasn’t healthy enough to play the whole 90 minutes. This decision completely failed.
Ronaldo left the Bernabeu, but Madrid’s star player Karim Benzema has talked about how he was able to return to scoring, so there’s a chance his departure from United might have a similar effect on some of the players left behind. And the Frenchman acknowledges that he realized it was “time to modify my game” after Ronaldo left.
It’s true that I’ve scored a lot more goals, Benzema stated ahead of Wednesday night’s UEFA Super Cup match against Eintracht Frankfurt. But we played differently when Cristiano was here, and I gave away more assists.
He was a huge help to me both on and off the field. However, I was aware that I was capable of more at the time. After he left, it was time for me to alter my strategy and goals, which I am currently doing well.
Prior to the transfer window closing in just over three weeks, United is frantically trying to add attacking reinforcements. Due to negative fan reaction and Bologna’s high asking price, they withdrew from a contentious transfer for Marko Arnautovic, while Benjamin Sesko chose to sign with RB Leipzig.
