According to numerous reports from Spain, Barcelona has accepted their fate in the chase for Sevilla defender Jules Koundé and ruled out a transfer for the French international who is currently very close to joining Chelsea.
In an effort to give the Catalans a few extra hours to make a formal offer to the Andalusian club, Koundé decided to travel to Portugal with the Sevilla team on Thursday afternoon.
However, the proposal never materialized, and the Blaugrana will not be able to compete with Chelsea’s offer to both the club and the player.
Fabrizio Romano claims that the Blues have made a five-year deal and a £55 million offer to Sevilla for the player.
Other reports claim that Koundé will receive a salary of over 10 million euros per year, which Barca cannot afford given their current financial situation.
Jules Koundé is currently largely out of the running, so the team will concentrate on other candidates for the center-back spot in addition to finalizing deals for César Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso, who will join from Chelsea in the upcoming days to provide depth at full-back.
It seems clear that Jules Kounde’s next club is Chelsea and he will not be joining Barcelona this summer.
