La Liga president picks two Real Madrid players over Robert Lewandowski.
On Tuesday, September 6, Panini stickers for the upcoming La Liga 2022–23 season went on sale.
League president Javier Tebas was among the participants in attendance and he made some unofficial remarks regarding Real Madrid and Barcelona’s transfer activities.
According to journalist Gonzalo Palafox, when asked to select between Robert Lewandowski and Aurelien Tchouameni as the superior signing, Tebas simply said, “Tchouameni.”
Casemiro, who joined Manchester United, has not been missed by Real Madrid at all thanks to the 22-year-old former Monaco midfielder. He joined his new squad after being signed for an estimated €80 million, with an additional €20 million in add-ons. He has participated in every league game.
When asked to choose between Barcelona’s new star, Lewandowski, and Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema, the 60-year-old responded, “Since I’m a Madridista, I’ll select Benzema.”
Tebas’ remarks on favoritism have ignited a big outrage on social media.
Lewandowski, who reportedly paid €50 million to join, has adjusted to the league like a duck to water, scoring five goals in four games.
Lewandowski has had such an impact that he has scored a hat trick in two of his previous three league games.
In terms of Benzema, his two goals against Espanyol on matchday three brought his total to three. The defending Spanish and European champions of Real Madrid eventually blanked Real Betis, but they still prevailed 2-1 in the match.
Tebas was also questioned regarding his thoughts on the entire Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid saga.
The young Frenchman reportedly came very close to signing with the Santiago Bernabeu team but ultimately chose to extend his contract with Paris Saint-Germain.
Tebas said that after careful consideration, La Liga was prepared to welcome the French superstar, but the deal ultimately fell through.
