Laporta sends a message to Bayern, as he finally speaks the truth about De Jong’s move to Manchester United this summer.
This summer, the international from Poland joined the Blaugrana.
The actions of Barcelona during this transfer window have drawn significant criticism. People from Chelsea and Bayern Munich have already voiced their discomfort about the Blaugrana’s extravagant spending in spite of their financial difficulties.
Joan Laporta defended Barcelona’s transfer strategy during a Manhattan event to promote the relationship between the club and UNHCR, the UN organization for refugees.
In response to Bayern Munich’s investments being criticized by coach Julian Nagelsmann, he also delivered a message to the team.
Laporta stated, “What I would urge is that [Bayern Munich] check their bank account.
“They received a sizable sum of money in exchange for moving Lewandowski. I respect everyone and refrain from meddling in their financial affairs.
Laporta criticized other teams for making financial judgments about Barcelona’s condition without having sufficient knowledge of their own problems.
They may have believed we couldn’t pull it off, but they didn’t realize Barcelona’s might or the determination of the new board, said Laporta. “I give them the benefit of the doubt,” he continued.
“It’s a lack of information about our club, a lack of expertise. The levers significantly strengthened the club. The page has already been turned.
“Barcelona has a more than 120-year history as well as many valuable items. a value that is far higher than the value of the assets of other clubs.
“Do you understand that we have accounted for 667 and a half million euros for the TV rights for 25 years rather than 50, as others had suggested?
“Thus, we are succeeding. Although I would have preferred to avoid having to do it, I was forced to since football does not wait and it was important.
“Fortunately, Barcelona supporters are used to it and have higher expectations than most.
“We have 400 million plus fans that expect more from us than other brands. Everyone is aware of their responsibilities, so as long as I don’t interfere with what they are doing, I would ask them to refrain from doing the same for us.
“We’ll compete on the field to see who has put in the most effort and performed the best. Let them worry about what they do, I’m not stating this to start a debate.
Joan Laporta on De Jong: “FDJ wants to stay and the club too. Another thing is the talks we have because there is a new salary structure. We find a high wage bill, hence we have to talk to players. We’ll do our best to keep him & I hope he will also do everything he can to stay”
The Barcelona president claimed that Frenkie De Jong had to do everything to stay at the club this summer. According to multiple reports, the player is not open to take a pay-cut and he want to stay.
