LEAKED AUDIO: Riqui Puig slammed Ferran Torres, turned down Milan and Chelsea move to stay in Spain, when he was 20-21 years.
The days of Riqui Puig at Barcelona seem to be numbered. The 22-year-old was once a bright spot for Cules but has had trouble making an impression lately.
Puig was granted permission by Barcelona to skip training on Wednesday amid rumors of a transfer to LA Galaxy.
But things could have gone so many other ways. According to leaked audio made public by Joan Fontes, Puig, who was well regarded in European football, could have left Barcelona earlier in order to play on a far bigger platform than LA Galaxy.
He made the remarks in February while he was attending driving school.
“I received offers from Milan and Chelsea. I’m doing great here in Barcelona. Wherever you go, they pay you twice as much, but you are by yourself.
Ferran Torres’ entrance inside the club was mentioned in another audio clip. When Manchester City permitted the Spanish international to go for Barcelona for €55 million, it raised eyebrows.
Ferran Torres? [Pep] Guardiola didn’t even want him. He played only 12 games last season.
Even while it’s possible that Guardiola didn’t want him, Torres did in fact play 36 games and score 13 goals for City during the season Puig was talking to.
Puig’s failure to progress to the first team has generated a lot of discussion. Nevertheless, Puig ultimately ended up serving as a metaphor for a lot of disputes within the Barcelona “entorno” that had little to do with him, regardless of what he did on the field.
