Lionel Messi makes history with new Champions League record, as Cristiano Ronaldo surpassed.
One of the best players to ever grace the game of football is Lionel Messi. Throughout the course of his long career, the 35-year-old former captain of Barcelona has broken numerous records and is still doing so.
Last year, Messi moved to Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona, but his time in France did not get off to the best of starts. He has, however, matured and made a strong start to the new campaign in 2022.
In fact, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner has already produced five goals and eight assists in ten games across all competitions, leading the charge for PSG at a time when there are some differences between Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.
Messi scored in PSG’s 3-1 victory over Maccabi Haifa on Wednesday night to score his first goal of the current season in the UEFA Champions League.

The Argentina captain’s goal established history by making him the only player to ever score a goal in 18 straight Champions League seasons.
Messi has an incredible track record in Europe’s top football championship, having won it four times, all while playing for Camp Nou.
With 126 goals to his credit, the 35-year-old great sits second all-time among Champions League goal scorers, only being surpassed by Cristiano Ronaldo.
Messi tops the list of all-time leading goal scorers for a single club in the league with his 120 goals for Barcelona. He is also the first player to have scored in 16 straight seasons for the same team in Europe’s top club competition.
He also added a new record to his resume on Wednesday.
When Messi’s deal with PSG expires in the summer of 2019, there have been discussions of him moving back to Barcelona. He won’t make a decision about his future until 2023, after the FIFA World Cup in Qatar is over.
