Man United tipped to bring Memphis Depay back to Old Trafford, but Antonio Conte’s Tottenham are leading the race as Barcelona want only €20m.
Memphis Depay, a 28-year-old attacker, is apparently the subject of an impending offer from Barcelona, with Tottenham reportedly considering a €20 million deal to recruit him.
Spanish news site Fichajes claims that Tottenham Hotspur will shortly make Barcelona an offer of €20 million for Memphis Depay. The north London juggernauts are getting ready for their summer transfer window effort to pry the 28-year-old attacker from Camp Nou.
After a successful tenure with Lyon, Memphis Depay completed a dream move last summer by signing for Barcelona on a free transfer. The Dutch international, however, had a wildly inconsistent season at Camp Nou after a promising start, especially failing to perform well in the UEFA Champions League.
In spite of this, the 28-year-old finished his first season with Barcelona as the team’s leading scorer, with 13 goals in 38 appearances across all competitions. Depay is no longer needed at Camp Nou as a result of Raphinha’s acquisition and Ousmane Dembele’s two-year contract extension with Barcelona. And this summer, Tottenham could present him with a new opportunity.
With six acquisitions made so far this summer, Tottenham has been quite busy in the market. Djed Spence is the newest player to join the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Thus, Antonio Conte is having a successful transfer window as he prepares for his debut season with the north London club and aims to elevate the group.
Tottenham may yet make a move during the summer transfer window, though, as Depay has caught their attention as a potential transfer target for the 2022–23 season. Although Richarlison has already been acquired by Spurs to reinforce their offensive unit, Conte may have requested a player similar to the Barcelona striker due to the uncertainty surrounding the futures of Bryan Gil and Lucas Moura.
The north Londoners are reportedly getting ready to make their first formal offer for Depay, and they will reportedly make an offer of €20 million shortly. Barcelona may have to accept the €20 million offer as the Dutch attacker is nearing the final year of his contract.
Depay, though, reportedly does not want to join Tottenham this summer, according to recent rumors. The 28-year-old has also claimed that he wants to stay at Camp Nou through the summer transfer window, but given recent events at FC Barcelona, he might not have a position in the team. Depay should look for a new challenge now that the 2022 FIFA World Cup is only a few months away.

Barcelona are open to selling for €20m and Manchester United have been tipped to do a deal. Memphis Depay’s joined the Reds under Van Gaal, but he was not successful and he left without completing his mission.
