The youthful players from Manchester United might play a role at Old Trafford in the upcoming campaign.
In advance of the upcoming Premier League season, Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage have both demonstrated to Erik ten Hag what they can give Manchester United.
While on tour with the senior team this summer, the young duo has made an impression. After United’s 4-0 thrashing of Liverpool in preseason, the pair first attracted attention for their second-half displays, which displayed a degree of maturity infrequently seen in such young players.
As they whizzed the ball around the field, Savage and Iqbal displayed their variety of passing prowess, giving the impression that they were at ease playing alongside Premier League players.
Their performances will have given Ten Hag a tremendous boost because the Dutchman is aware of the value of having a talented group of young players thanks to his time at Ajax.
And based on remarks he made when playing in the Eredivisie, Savage and Iqbal might be in line for a chance in the Premier League this year.
The Dutchman added, “I do think that teenagers need to receive an opportunity in the first squad, but they have to deserve that chance themselves,” in a statement from back in 2019.
They need to demonstrate that they are at least as good as the existing players, if not better.
Ten Hag has discussed the use of young players in public before. While on tour in Australia, the management gave the boys with extra cause for optimism.
He said, “I think it’s always an issue of developing. “With both seasoned professionals and younger players, that is. If they are good enough and old enough, I will play them because I am a coach and am not afraid. The team responds to the high standards and ideals we set. With that, we are content.”
Savage, Iqbal, and the other incredibly bright young players in the academy will undoubtedly hear the manager of United’s remarks as they strive to succeed in the years to come.
Manchester United are exploring options for one of the youngsters as the board believe that they need playing time. Zidane Iqbal is likely to stay with the squad this summer.
