As Manchester United is ready to formally announce the signing of Mason Mount from Chelsea, they might be on the verge of making a second summer signing.
After United agreed to pay an initial £55 million, plus a further $5 million in performance-related add-ons, for the England international, he has now arrived at the club’s Carrington training facility ahead of his medical.
Mount might join United soon and make his team debut the following week when the Red Devils start their preseason training.
However, United are still actively pursuing other deals, and according to a recent update, they have reportedly reached a personal agreement with Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.
Following a phenomenal World Cup, the midfielder has drawn interest from clubs like Barcelona, AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, and sides in Saudi Arabia.
Amrabat was one of the highlights of the Qatar Cup, putting on a string of all-action midfield performances that helped Morocco, an underdog, get to the semifinals.
Additionally, Sport Witness quotes Italian publication La Nazione as saying that United have a “economic agreement” with the 26-year-old and are major admirers of him.
Before Amrabat’s contract expires in 2024, Fiorentina, who made it to the Europa Conference League final in the 2022–23 season, reportedly demands at least €30 million (£26 million) for his services.
For United, who are apparently happy to treble his €37,000-per-week wage, he would be a coup.
Barcelona tried to sign him in January but was unable to, so Amrabat appears destined to go this summer.
The player also has ties to United’s manager Erik ten Hag because, from 2015 to 2017, he was an assistant coach at FC Utrecht.
Amrabat, who typically plays as a defensive midfielder for United, would cover for Casemiro, whose value to the team was clear each time he was out last year due to a suspension.
Nordin, a former Watford player who is Amrabat’s brother, made a suggestion about a prospective transfer to United in an interview with ESPN last month.
He stated, “Of course you never know, it will be a strong competition when you see which names are going,” prior to the Europa Conference League final. However, my brother now plans to play professionally, ideally in Spain or England, in my opinion.
“Ten Hag is looking for a striker right now; that’s what he wants initially. He will assess what is feasible from there. However, I am aware that Ten Hag is won over by my brother because he got through to him and they get along well.
