Joao Felix’s agent, Jorge Mendes, reportedly informed Atletico Madrid that the forward would be leaving the team during the forthcoming January transfer window, according to journalist Miguel Martn Talavera.
Felix joined the Rojiblancos in the summer of 2019 in a transfer of €120 million, but he hasn’t lived up to expectations.
Even though he has shown hints of having limitless potential, the 23-year-old has had trouble integrating into Diego Simeone’s way of doing things. His playing time has significantly decreased this semester, and his relationship with the manager has become strained, making his departure appear like a real possibility.
The Portuguese star has informed the Colchoneros that he would be departing Atletico Madrid at the end of next month, which has further increased the likelihood of his departure due to the club’s dire financial circumstances.
There don’t seem to be any shortage of potential buyers for Felix as we approach the midseason trading window.
In fact, the former SL Benfica star is being pursued by a number of elite clubs, including PSG, Chelsea, and Manchester United, the latter of which even had a bid for him rejected during the summer transfer window.
The type of departure operation is still up in the air, though, because the club that contracts him will need to take their Financial Fair Play position into account given that substantial sums of money may be at stake.
Therefore, the rumor claims that Felix might leave Atletico on a loan deal through the end of the season with a clause requiring a buy option.
Along with Felix, Matheus Cunha, another forward, is anticipated to leave Atletico Madrid in January after apparently reaching a deal with Wolves.
For their part, Los Colchoneros have already started looking for replacements they will need to sign if they lose two forwards during the winter transfer window.
