Manchester United had an agreement with Frenkie De Jong’s agent but Barcelona behaviour described Disrespectful.
There is no doubt about the fact that Manchester United made a significant effort to sign Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong in the summer. However, their attempts were in vain because the 25-year-old was certain about his desire to stay in Catalonia.
De Jong, though, is said to have been less certain about not wanting to sign with the Red Devils this summer and may have been open to a transfer, according to a report from the Manchester Evening News.
An agreement had been reached between Manchester United and Barcelona over a €85 million trade for the Dutch international.
Although it was thought that the Premier League powerhouses were unable to reach a personal agreement with de Jong, the article claims that they did verbally agree on the midfielder’s wage with Ali Dursun, implying that a transfer would have been feasible.
De Jong’s postponed wages at Barcelona, where the Catalans apparently asked Manchester United to pay them as well, put a stop to the trade, though.
After the deal ultimately fell through, Manchester United director John Murtough, who had been to Barcelona to conduct talks, called Barcelona’s actions in the matter “disgraceful.”
De Jong was also a target for Chelsea, and on the day of the transfer deadline, an anonymous club is reported to have made an approach for over €100 million.
Even though he hasn’t started in two of the Blaugrana’s three La Liga games thus far, the Netherlands international has ultimately decided to remain at Spotify Camp Nou and will attempt to play a significant role in Xavi’s plans.
