Manchester United has reached an agreement to sign Newcastle goalkeeper as Antony set to complete his medical today.
It’s a special day for the Manchester United supporters as the club are on the verge of completing two deals. An agreement between Manchester United and Ajax has been reached for a transfer fee worth €100m.
It was reported that the Brazilian winger has landed in Manchester for his medical.
According to Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Manchester United has reached a deal in principle to borrow goalkeeper Martin Dubravka from Newcastle United for this season.
The Red Devils have been searching for a backup goalkeeper who can take David de Gea’s place in the starting lineup. Although Dean Henderson has been an outstanding choice for that position, it was inevitable that he would want to see more action.
This season, the Englishman signed a loan deal with Premier League newcomers Nottingham Forest, leaving Man United with only 36-year-old Tom Heaton as the second choice behind De Gea in that position.
The 33-year-old Dubravka has long served as a reliable goalkeeper in the Premier League. Since playing with the Magpies in the 2017–18 season, he has made 127 league appearances.
He participated in 26 league games the previous year, but Eddie Howe’s plan was for him to serve as Nick Pope’s clear backup this year. If Romano is to be believed, he is currently planning to relocate to Old Trafford.
The Slovakian international is also available for purchase by the Red Devils for £5 million if they decide to do so next summer. In case Henderson continues to press for playing time, which is difficult to guarantee given De Gea’s position, that is a welcome safety net for the team.
Of course, the deal hasn’t been finalized yet; it won’t be considered official until the teams make it known. If Dubravka does end up joining us, it makes sense for all parties involved, so United supporters won’t be too unhappy.
