Manchester United pulled out of the race to sign Marko Arnautovic after complaints from the fan.
According to rumours, Marko Arnautovic will not be signed by Manchester United this summer due to “complaints from fans” and his total cost.
It was revealed that United had made a £6.8 million offer for former West Ham and Stoke attacker Arnautovic, who currently plays for Serie A team Bologna, after their opening-day loss to Brighton on Sunday.
However, the Italian team promptly rejected that offer, and despite the extremely unfavorable reaction from the supporters, a better offer was anticipated.
However, it now seems United have backed out of a deal to sign Arnautovic after days of deal ambiguity.
According to The Athletic, the club got several complaints from supporters who opposed the notion of signing the Austrian forward, including one from Michael Damevski.
North Macedonian-born Damevski wrote a letter to United in which he questioned how Arnautovic’s acquisition would fit with the team’s policy of racial intolerance.
The Austria forward received a one-match suspension last season after allegedly using an anti-Albanian slur during his nation’s match against North Macedonia at Euro 2020.
After conducting an inquiry, UEFA determined that the 33-year-old attacker had “insulted another player.”
The story from The Athletic also states that Damevski’s issues were addressed in a response from a Manchester United staff member.
Additionally, they assert that a number of supporters emailed CEO Richard Arnold regarding the relocation.
Bologna also stated that Arnautovic was not for sale after the £6.8 million approach was turned down in addition to the objections.
The former West Ham striker, who made 184 appearances during his stint in the Premier League, would have required United to spend more money to finalize the transfer, and this fact “limited the appeal” of signing him.
The club will now search other for attacking targets with just over three weeks left before the market closes.
